Beaches, white villas, mountain roads and a relaxed, premium mood, all within a short drive. Fashion labels, swimwear brands and music artists come to Marbella for exactly this mix. A good result abroad, though, starts long before anyone books a flight.
Here is how we plan a photoshoot in Marbella with our clients, from the first brief to the final images.
Step 1: Write a Clear Creative Brief
Before you look at models or locations, put these points on paper:
- What you are shooting: a new collection, a swimwear line, a product launch, a music video or social content.
- Where the content will appear: website, e-commerce, social media, print or outdoor. This affects image licensing and model fees.
- The mood: luxury villa, natural beach light, city streets, sporty and active.
- Deliverables: how many final images and video clips, which formats (vertical for social, horizontal for web) and your deadline.
- Budget range: even a rough figure helps us suggest realistic options.
One page with a few reference images is enough to start.
Step 2: Pick the Right Months
Our team recommends shooting in April, May and June, or in September, October and November. We call it the soft season. The sun is gentler, so skin tones and fabrics look better on camera. Beaches and streets are less crowded, so you get cleaner backgrounds and fewer interruptions. Permissions are also easier to arrange than in the busy peak of summer.
Whatever the month, plan your key shots for the morning and the last hours before sunset, when the light is warmest. Save the middle of the day for indoor or shaded set-ups.

Step 3: Cast Your Models Early
Casting often takes the longest, especially when you need a specific look, size or skill. A smooth casting usually goes like this:
- You share the brief with your agency: look, age range, sizes, special skills (swimwear, movement, dance) and usage.
- The agency sends a selection of model cards and digitals that match.
- You choose your options and the agency checks availability for your dates.
- Fees and usage rights are agreed in writing before the shoot.
A model card shows everything a client needs at a glance: measurements, sizes and a few recent images. Here is an example from our board:

At Marble Model Scout we cast from our own boards (main cast, new faces, male and petite) and from our wider network. You can browse our current models and send us your favourites.
Step 4: Scout Locations That Fit the Story
Within a short distance of Marbella you can find:
- Beaches and beach clubs for swimwear, resort and lifestyle content
- Private villas for a high-end, editorial look
- The old town, with whitewashed streets and small plazas
- Mountain and countryside roads for automotive and adventure stories (our Bugatti and ASCARI campaign was shot in nearby Ronda)
- Sports courts and city settings for activewear and streetwear
Because these places are close together, one production trip can give you several different looks. Visit or scout each location before the shoot to check light, access, parking and a plan B for bad weather.

Step 5: Sort Out Permits and Permissions
Some locations need a permit or the owner’s written permission, especially for commercial shoots, drones or larger crews in public spaces. Requirements depend on the place and the type of shoot. Our team checks what each location needs and arranges the permissions for you.
You will also need:
- Location agreements for private villas, restaurants and beach clubs
- Model releases and usage agreements for everyone in the images
- Insurance, if your company or the location asks for it
Step 6: Build Your Crew
You don’t have to fly in a full team. Depending on the project, you can hire locally:
- Photographer and/or director of photography
- Stylist and wardrobe assistant
- Hair and make-up artists
- Art director or creative director
- Production assistant and location manager
Many brands bring their own creative lead and book everyone else on the ground. It keeps travel costs down and communication simple.
Step 7: Plan the Schedule and Logistics
A clear call sheet keeps the day calm. Include:
- Call times for crew and models
- Every location, with addresses and travel times
- The order of looks and outfits
- Breaks, meals and plenty of water
- A shaded spot or private space for changing
- Phone numbers for everyone on set
- Your bad-weather plan
Don’t forget flights, accommodation and transport for anyone coming from abroad. We can take care of concierge arrangements for your team, so you can focus on the shoot instead of the logistics.
Step 8: The Shoot Day and After
On the day, the production lead keeps everything on schedule so the creative team can focus on the images. Afterwards, plan time for:
- Selecting images with your team
- Retouching and editing
- Delivery in the formats from your brief
- Tracking usage, so images only appear where you hold the rights
Can You Plan It Remotely?
Yes. If your team can’t travel, you share the brief, approve casting and locations online, and the local team runs the shoot for you. We keep you updated throughout the shoot day and share previews so you can give feedback. Find out more about our local and remote production.
